Possible ban of Lithuanian transit for Belarus worries Moscow

MOSCOW, Dec 16 (PRIME) -- Moscow is worried by a possible ban of transit of Belarusian cargoes through Lithuania, Foreign Ministry’s official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

“We were deeply concerned with the information about a possible ban of transit of cargoes from Belarus through Lithuania. We are sure that this way is a dead-end track because it can disrupt supplies to the Kaliningrad Region and hurt the economy, social position, and the quality of life of the people of this Russian Federation region,” she said.

Russia will not ignore the measure if introduced, and calls on the partners to avoid this way of disruption of economic relations and to do everything possible to normalize the situation. Lithuania should ensure fulfillment of international obligations on transit provision of Russian cargoes to and from the Kaliningrad Region, Zakharova said.
